“CASA is outraged by the brutal assassination of 20 innocent community members perpetuated by a US born terrorist at one of this country’s most diverse cities. There is no question that a direct line can be drawn from the hateful, anti-immigrant rhetoric emanating from the Trump administration to this violent xenophobic act of terrorism. Such irresponsible acts of racism by elected officials should be condemned as vociferously as this weekend’s violence should this horrible event not be repeated. The events of El Paso are very personal to many CASA staff and member leaders who have deep ties to the El Paso/Cuidad Juarez community. Our prayers and solidarity will continue to be with this strong and proud Mexican and American community. We also express deep sympathy with the people of Dayton, Ohio and Gilroy, California, and the countless communities across this country impacted by the scourge of gun violence. We are all connected and we must speak out.”
