The fight for a pathway to citizenship is stronger than ever! Yesterday, CASA joined workers union 32BJ SEIU and other partners for the Essential Immigrant Women Workers Rally for International Women’s Day.
On the halfway mark of President Biden’s first 100 days in office, CASA members from all over the DMV gathered in Washington, D.C. to celebrate International Women’s Day and urge Congress to pass the Dream and Promise Act next Thursday. The Dream and Promise Act, H.R. 6, is expected to be voted on in the House of Representatives next week, creating a pathway to citizenship for TPS, DACA and DED recipients.
CASA members like Virginia, who has been a TPS beneficiary for 20 years, would benefit from the Dream and Promise Act. Virginia came to the U.S. from El Salvador, and has grown to love the U.S. as her home. All of her children and grandchildren are here. Yesterday, she spoke at the rally sharing, “I want to speak on behalf of so many exploited and abused women who are immigrants in this country, we need to have a permanent residence to have more stability and not to be abused anymore.” Immigrant women essential workers have been making invaluable sacrifices on the frontlines of the pandemic. We celebrate these women and demand that Congress provide them relief and a pathway to citizenship!

Next week, we continue our weekly actions in D.C. calling on the new administration and Congress for immigration reform. We’re hosting an “immigrant’s state of the union” address to assess where the country’s immigration system truly is right now and what reforms are needed. We must honor their sacrifice by protecting them from deportation, keeping their families together and providing them with a path to citizenship.
The only way we’ll be able to effectively tackle the pandemic and make our nation whole is by passing fair and humane immigration reform that will provide a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented workers, most of whom are essential workers.
