(YORK, Pennsylvania) – On Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. ET, State Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, HD-95 (York County) and Mayor Michael Helfrich (City of York) will join environmental justice and clean energy advocates for a press conference to urge the U.S. Senate to pass the $550 billion in crucial climate investments that passed through the House of Representatives last November. These investments aim to cut carbon pollution that leads to extreme weather patterns in half by 2030. The event will be sponsored by immigrant advocacy organization CASA.

Speakers will highlight how climate change has made recent extreme weather events more frequent and severe. More than 40% of Americans experienced a climate change-fueled extreme weather event in 2021. South Central Pennsylvania has seen first-hand the dramatic consequences of climate change over the last year — extreme flooding from Hurricane Ida, drought, historic snowstorms, and wildly fluctuating temperatures that put tremendous stress on public health and the aging infrastructure in the region.

The event will also highlight solar investments that are critical to addressing the climate crisis and creating millions of good-paying jobs in clean energy. Speakers will thank Senator Bob Casey for his leadership and call on the rest of the Senate to take swift action by approving these critical climate and clean energy investments.
