We must protect the people who have lived in this country for 15 years without status – and who have been ignored by the Biden administration’s recent decision.
Yesterday, children from all over the country whose parents need TPS visited the White House and gave White House officials friendship bracelets, calling on President Biden to uphold his promise to keep families together. Right after these conversations, the Biden administration issued a decision that offers relief to 300,000 current TPS holders but denies status to people who have been in this country for 15 years and to-date have no status. President Biden should have redesignated TPS, instead of extending it, to offer relief.
Our message is clear – it is NOT enough to simply erase the stain of Trump’s anti-immigrant assault on TPS. While we are relieved to hear that 337,000 families will remain together following DHS’s decision to rescind the prior administration’s termination of TPS, the Biden administration must take bold action to open TPS for ALL people from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nepal and Nicaragua currently living in the United States. We demand more. We demand better. |
People like Ashley and her mother Maria are denied too frequently. They have lived here for 15 years and should have been eligible for TPS, but they are not because of the Biden administration’s decision. It is time to listen to children like Ashley and her powerful mother Maria and finally push the Biden administration to redesignate TPS for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nepal, and Nicaragua. These children and their families deserve to have a safe and prosperous future.
