Hyattsville, MD (Wednesday, August 21, 2019) – CASA released the following statement regarding the Trump administration’s move to undermine Flores Protections for vulnerable  immigrant children being held in detention centers and to allow indefinite detention of immigrant families without sanitary conditions and basic standards of care.

“Today, the criminal Trump administration announces its intention to violate US and international human rights law by attempting to incarcerate children of color for as long as they please,” said George Escobar, Chief of Programs and Services, CASA. “Yet again, Trump attempts cruel and inhumane tactics in an attempt to intimidate us, first they separated our children from their families, then they put them in cages, soon after they refused to provide them diapers, soap and water and now they announce an attempt to incarcerate them indefinitely, all coming just weeks after a Trump fan went to a border town to kill “Mexicans” to stop an “invasion.” Demonstrating the instincts of a racist school yard bully by threatening to traumatize and torture children of color only further highlights how weak and morally corrupt Trump and his allies truly are. CASA, its members and allies stand united in fighting these policies and will not rest until they are reversed.”

CASA will continue advocating to protect our vulnerable children and immigrant families.
