A powerful statement from Gustavo Torres, CASA’s Executive Director, in honor of Bette Hoover, who recently passed away.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear friend and founding board member, Bette Hoover. Bette was an extraordinary force behind the inception and growth of CASA, and her legacy is indelibly woven into the very fabric of our organization.

In CASA’s infancy, Bette stood as a beacon of unwavering dedication and tireless commitment. She played a pivotal role in shaping CASA into the vital institution it is today. Her vision, tenacity, and unwavering belief in the importance of our mission were instrumental in laying the foundation for our work.

Bette’s legacy is illuminated by her tireless efforts to uplift immigrant families and empower working-class communities. She recognized that justice knows no borders, and she dedicated herself to breaking down the barriers that too often disenfranchise those on the fringes of society.

Bette’s advocacy was a rallying cry for fairness, compassion, and the fundamental rights of all people. Her support for immigrant and working-class communities was an embodiment of the principles that underpin social justice. She stood against discrimination, she stood against exploitation, and she stood for a world where every individual had the chance to thrive.
