The Biden-Harris administration kicks off full-force to reverse the damage of the last four years, building a fair, humane and functional immigration system. It is currently estimated that 11 million people in the United States are undocumented. The immigrant community works, pays taxes, and contributes to our society – but don’t reap the benefits of being a citizen. That must change.
The Biden-Harris administration’s Day 1 promise to the immigrant community is being realized, with a series of executive orders slated for the first month. The new administration must impose a moratorium on enforcement, dismantle the detention and deportation machinery turbo-charged by previous administrations, and build a fundamentally new approach to governing immigration, centered on a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, including millions of people who are serving in essential roles on the frontlines of the pandemic.
