As Pride Month fades into July, I wanted to share with you the amazing LGBTQ+ committee at CASA.
CASA’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee was formed in 2019 by queer-identifying staff with the goal to make CASA a more welcoming and inclusive organization by actively embracing all gender diverse and non-heteronormative staff and community.

This committee spearheaded events earlier this month such as attending Capital Pride in D.C., holding a CASA center pride decoration contest, and sharing educational material on social media channels about Pride Month and the history surrounding the LGBTQ+ community.

Here are some words from LGBTQ+ committee member, Juan Pablo Guerreo:
“I am proudly gay and I am very happy to be so because if I were born again I would ask to choose the same sexual orientation. For me, Pride Month means a thousand things, and holds a lot of meaning. I am happy and every moment lived means being and feeling proud of what I am and what I give to others! Happy Pride Month every single day.”
We celebrate pride because of the organizing, activism, love, and perseverance of Black and brown LGBTQ+ people. Always honor that. Let us remember to embrace and celebrate all who are part of the LGBTQ+ community not just this month, but every day.
