Washington, DC — On TPS Children’s Day, June 13, children whose parents need TPS will present White House staff with friendship bracelets, calling on President Biden to uphold his promise to keep families together. At noon the same day, they and their parents will gather outside at Lafayette Park for a press conference to launch this TPS Week of Action.

Families are traveling from various parts of the country to meet with White House, Congress, and make their presence known in DC. Other activities in the week of action include a Town Hall with Governor Wes Moore, and a Facebook Live conversation with Representative Sylvia Garcia on Thursday; and a Twitter Town Hall for #TPSJustice on Friday.

WHAT: Press conference featuring children of people who need #TPSJustice

WHEN: June 13 @ noon ET

WHERE: Lafayette Park

WHO: Families with TPS, Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10), and leaders with Adhikaar, Alianza Americas, CASA, CUSP, Nicaraguan American Legal Defense and Education Fund, SEIU, SEIU-32BJ

Families and supporters are calling on the Biden administration to redesignate TPS for El Salvador, Honduras, Nepal, and Nicaragua, and to designate TPS for Guatemala, to protect people from being deported to these countries while return remains unsafe.

❗ @POTUS @JoeBiden promised permanent protections for long-time immigrants with TPS status. Reversing the harms committed by President Trump’s racist and illegal TPS terminations is priority 1️⃣ #TPSJustice

Children from these countries are often overlooked in the policy debates. Many were born in the U.S., and all face hardship if their parents and siblings can’t work legally, compounded by tragedy if their parents are deported to danger. Every child should have the right to grow up in safety with their family.

The Trump administration tried to cancel TPS for almost everyone who had it, but was stymied by immigrant advocates who took to the courts. The Biden administration has been defending those terminations in court. Ahead of the June 22 Ramos hearing at the 9th Circuit, children will speak up about what TPS means for them and their families. They will plead with President Biden to stop defending the Trump administration decision and instead to designate or redesignate TPS for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nepal, and Nicaragua.
