LANGLEY PARK, Md. (TUESDAY, APRIL 24, 2018) – CASA in Action President Gustavo Torres issued the following statement in response to the D.C. District Court’s decision forcing the Trump administration to accept new applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“A major win tonight! The D.C. District Court proclaimed what the rest of the nation already knows and what we argued in our lawsuit: Trump’s decision to end DACA was arbitrary and unlawful. The March 5 deadline, picked at random, underscored the only thing Trump did on purpose: he tried to implement a policy decision fueled explicitly by racist motivations to exclude immigrants who form the fabric of our country. DREAMers should be afforded the opportunity to remain in the place they work and study. Despite the victory, however, our nation can’t wait for the judicial system to do what Congress must. Now more than ever, our elected officials need to pass the DREAM and the American Hope Acts, so DREAMers, TPS and DED recipients can stay in the place they call home.”

Prospective initial applicants should call CASA at 301-431-4185 for a screening and advice on document collection. Prospective candidates can apply after 90 days, with no guarantee that process will move forward.
