Sarah Gakenia Cleveland

Housing Legal Fellow

Sarah Gakenia Cleveland is a Legal Fellow at CASA where she works on housing and immigration issues for CASA members. Before coming to CASA, she graduated law school in San Diego, California where she conducted research on the U.S.-Mexico border. During law school, she worked in detention centers and in criminal defense representing immigrants. She was a member of the Epsten, Grinell & Howell, APC National Trial Team where she was a finalist in the 2020 TYLA National Trial Competition and gained experience with a wide array of cases from different areas of law. Prior to law school, she received her B.A. in Global Studies and lived in Colombia where she worked with Afro-Latinos on negotiations surrounding the 2016 Peace Agreement. Sarah speaks English, Spanish, Kikuyu, and some Swahili.
