After the resignation of Prince George’s County Police Chief Hank Stawinski, CASA Executive Director Gustavo Torres issued the following statement.

“It is evident that systemic racism still exists in PGPD and the residents of Prince George’s County deserve urgent and revolutionary police reform. The resignation is the first step toward a more equitable Maryland that serves, not harms, Black and brown community members. We thank Prince County Executive Angela Alsobrooks for accepting the resignation; transparency and community input must be at the forefront of the PGPD chief selection process. The next chief must focus on racial equity, systemic change, and building community trust to undo years of damage.”
