CASA Applauds Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring and Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh for Challenging Trump’s Proposed New Rule

Hyattsville, MD Today, Gustavo Torres, the Executive Director of CASA released the following statement in response to Herring and Frosh’s actions of filing a lawsuit against the Trump Administration’s new rule change:

“We applaud both Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring and Maryland Attorney Brian Frosh for their leadership in filing a lawsuit challenging DHS’ “Public Charge rule.” The “Public Charge” policy seeks to penalize low-income immigrants and those who apply for Medicaid, food stamps, and public housing by denying access to green cards and family unification,” said CASA Executive Director Gustavo Torres.  “The Trump administration is punishing individuals based on income and not on their enormous contributions to our nation. This racist policy is a direct attack on our families and we will soon join the Attorney Generals Herring and Frosh by challenging it in court.”

Over a thousand CASA members raised their voice and wrote public comments in opposition to this rule.  Now CASA will be filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration as part of a national movement to end this persecution against our immigrant community.
