Abolish PROMESA

During the past 5 years the people of Puerto Rico have spent almost two billion dollars ($ 2,000,000,000,000) in an undemocratic Junta that has not been able to get our island out of bankruptcy and along the way has imposed austerity measures that threaten the well-being of thousands of people and families in Puerto Rico, while forcing many more to leave the island.

The Fiscal Control Board is an abuse body that has supported lowering the minimum wage even further, closing schools, cutting essential services, privatizing our resources and making more flexible environmental permits that will harm our island for decades.

Now, the Board intends to impose an Adjustment Plan that will cut our pensions and further threaten our essential services — all to continue paying millions of dollars of illegal debt to bondholders.

Congress should amend the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA) to: eliminate LA JUNTA and replace them with Puerto Rico elected officials.
