Eviction Prevention

Our country is facing an eviction crisis. Hundreds of thousands of immigrants and working families face eviction every year, with several cities in Virginia leading the charge in eviction rankings. People of color are overrepresented in rent courts – and Black women, in particular, are suffering tremendously when it comes to losing their homes. No one should be forced to live on the streets during a pandemic – or at all.

Over the years, CASA has worked with partners on the national, state, and local level to advocate for policies that move away from the system that favors landlords and toward a system that strives for the dignity and livelihood of tenants. Our policy campaigns include advocating for the right to legal counsel during eviction proceedings, landlord negotiation practices, closing loopholes in eviction court – overall working toward stronger eviction policies that keep families in their homes.
