Pass the Maryland Immigrant Justice Protection Package

Protecting Immigrant Families Petition

In response to the flood of xenophobic executive orders issued during President Trump’s first week in office, Maryland must protect its immigrant communities and pass these key legislative priorities. These bills seek to minimize the terror from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation machine inside of Maryland. With ICE’s history of targeting, detainment, and family separation of hundreds of thousands of people, CASA encourages legislators to pass the following legislation: Protecting Sensitive Locations Act, Maryland Data Privacy Act, and Maryland Values Act.

CASA’s Immigration Priorities

CASA is championing three critical immigrant protection bills in Maryland. These bills will center the dignity, safety, and humanity of Maryland’s immigrant communities.

Protecting Sensitive Locations Act

No one should hesitate to seek life-saving care or attend school due to fear of immigration enforcement. This act establishes clear guidelines on ICE access to sensitive locations, including schools, courthouses, hospitals, places of worship, and other vital spaces.

Maryland Data
Privacy Act

Immigrant families should be able to access critical government services without worrying that their information will be shared with federal immigration authorities. This act blocks ICE from obtaining warrantless access to state and local agency databases.

Maryland
Values Act

This legislation terminates 287(g) agreements that allow local police to act as ICE agents. These agreements have been repeatedly abused, enabling racist sheriffs to racially profile and target marginalized communities. Ending this program is essential for restoring public trust.
