WHEN: First Day of Evictions, Tuesday, September 1 at 11 am
WHERE: York County District Court, 1285 E Princess St, York, PA 17403.
WHAT: Rally

On the day that courthouses across the Commonwealth start accepting eviction cases, tenants impacted by the COVID crisis will rally outside the York District Court demanding that judges side with communities by refusing to grant evictions.

Tenants face this new crisis after a moratorium on evictions expires on August 31. With the courts opening up, coupled with the acknowledged failure of Pennsylvania’s rental relief program to provide any significant assistance, the more than 400,000 households that were unable to pay rent in July face immediate eviction. A Census Bureau survey found that 15% of all tenants in Pennsylvania had “no confidence” in their ability to pay rent. Members of CASA in areas from Chester to Harrisburg have received threatening letters for months from landlords.

Activists will gather outside the courthouse on Tuesday to share their stories and demand judges stand with communities.
