Sonia from Ecuador and Emilia from El Salvador have had their green cards since 2000 and 2002. They have worked hard all their lives, and although they were eligible to apply for American citizenship in 2005 and 2007, they could not afford the application fee. Finally, after more than 10 years dreaming with the opportunity, they got the scholarship to afford the process. Each of them received a $300 scholarship check.

They are now waiting for the naturalization interview. They are grateful for the financial assistance, but most importantly, because they feel fully welcomed and supported by the county and community where they live. They cannot wait to take the oath, and get a US passport and register to vote!
