CASA members champion this ruling that can finally end the inhumane suffering that many asylum seekers have experienced.

Baltimore, MD – CASA Immigration Staff Attorney Jacob Lichtenbaum issued a statement in response to the ruling today that the Biden administration’s termination of the “Remain in Mexico” policy did not violate federal law and constituted final agency action. The Supreme Court has rejected lower courts’ attempts to significantly limit the President’s authority to conduct foreign policy.

It is crucial that the Biden Administration now move quickly and deliberately to permanently end “Remain in Mexico” as soon as possible to protect vulnerable migrants who wish to exercise their legal right to pursue asylum in the United States.

“Today’s ruling is a major victory for safety, compassion, and the rule of law, but the fight toward a more just and human immigration system is not over. We must fight until everyone is safe and not stranded, and work to ensure that the Title 42 policy is also ended.”
