ANNAPOLIS, MD (January 26, 2017) Faith, legislative, and political leaders will hold a rally starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Lawyer’s Mall in Annapolis to support immigrants and Muslims who are under assault by the new Trump Administration as a result of a series of executive actions signed by the President this week.
“Trump is making radical, foundational changes to domestic and international policy by executive edict, acting more like a monarch than a President,” said CASA’s Executive Director Gustavo Torres. “His plans are pulled directly from the nativists’ wish lists, making it clear that the bigotry and racism that drove his campaign are alive and well in his Administration.”
The rally will stand up Maryland as an alternative to the immigrant and Muslim-bashing antics in Washington and celebrate the good work being done by elected local officials statewide to halt the unlawful actions by the federal government. Among the proposals signed by executive order, Trump wants to hold federal funds from cities who want to increase trust between law enforcement officials and the immigrant community despite the evidence from data provided by the federal government that crime rates are lower in cities that take part in trust policies between police and community.
The rally in Annapolis comes nestled between Executive Orders signed yesterday by Trump that represent an unconstitutional and un-American assault on immigrants and refugees and forthcoming Executive Orders expected to specifically target refugees from some Muslim-majority countries.
The rally will feature diverse faith leaders, local and state political leaders, and Marylanders targeted by the new administration in Washington.
