Lt. Governor Anthony Brown to Speak on Immigrant Experience to Adult English-Learners

Brown will tour English as a Second Language Classrooms and Highlight Maryland’s Efforts to Strengthen 1st Generation American Families

WHO: Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown, 400+ ESOL students

(Silver Spring, MD) -CASA de Maryland will host Lt. Governor Anthony Brown this Monday for an evening of “Democracy & Immigrant Integration.”  After touring English-instruction classes, the Lieutenant Governor will inspire 400+ adult learners to engage actively in their communities, schools, and government. Brown will also touch on the progress Maryland has made in passing the DREAM Act, bringing health care to underserved communities and working to strengthen English language learning programs.

Participants in the event hail from countries including; Haití, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, México, Honduras, Bolivia, Cameroon, Colombia, Argentina, Perú, Paraguay, Brasil, Ecuador, Mozambique, Eritrea, Burkina Faso, Republic of Congo. At the event, students will have an opportunity to ask questions of the Lieutenant Governor, himself the son of immigrants from Jamaica and Switzerland.
