CASA Condemns Trump Administration for Abolishing DAPA Pleased DACA Remains in Place

WASHINGTON D.C (FRIDAY, JUNE 16, 2017) _ Statement from Gustavo Torres, Executive Director for CASA, regarding extension of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) benefits and DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents)

“While CASA is pleased to see that the Trump administration has decided to leave in place the highly successful DACA program, which was put in place by President Obama in 2012, we condemn the President’s decision to abolish DAPA, a program that would have protected vulnerable families. President Trump’s destructive immigration policies continue to rip families apart, separating U.S. citizen and DACAmented children alike from their parents. This is why we need comprehensive immigration reform that will address the future of millions of people who are still in immigration limbo and we believe now is the moment for the Congress to take the issue up.”
