Basic Security Officer

  • Course Info: 80 hour course taught by PGCC at the Institute for Security and Public Safety in Largo, MD
  • Components: Patrol and observation, how to enforce arrest powers, following emergency procedures, ethics, administering first aid, examining unknown substances, mastering customer service, basics of terrorism defense.
  • Certificate Awarded: 80 Nontransferable Credits from PGCC, certificate for basic security guard, eligibility to train for Unarmed Security Guard License in Maryland.

Building Maintenance Engineering

  • Course Info: 105 hour course taught by PGCC at CASA’s Prince George’s Training Center, includes OSHA 10 and Weatherization
  • Components: Electrical repair, basic plumbing, painting and drywall installation, door hanging, tile cutting and installation of ceramic units, general carpentry
  • Certificate Awarded: 70 Non-Transferrable Credits and certificate from Prince George’s Community College.

Childhood Development Associates

  • Course Info: Three part course divided into 90, 45, and 30 hour classes taught by Montgomery College in Rockville, MD, and PGCC in Langley Park, MD, includes First Aid and AED, CPR, and Sudden Death Prevention training
  • Components: Childhood development, curriculum building and education, health, safety and nutrition of infants and toddlers
  • Certificate Awarded: 90 Non-Transferable Credits from MC and PGCC, graduates are eligible able to pursue Childhood Development Associates degree.

Computer Repair

  • Course Info: 24 hour course taught at the CASA Multicultural Center’s computer training lab
  • Components: Computer components, microprocessors, binary language, identifying components of internal drives and motherboards, repairing and replacing hardware, mastering operating systems, repairing software and virus issues, driver installation.
  • Certificate Awarded: Certificate from CASA de Maryland.

Dressmaking and Tailoring

  • Course Info: 108 Hour class Taught at CASA’s Multicultural Center
  • Components: Taking measurements, using measuring tools, using sowing machines, recognizing fabrics, pattern design, alterations and adjustments, introduction to advanced dress making including- long and ornate dresses, men’s shirts, men’s dress shirts, advanced tailoring of men’s suits
  • Certificate Awarded: Certificate from CASA de Maryland.

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning

  • Course Info: 91 hour course taught by PGCC at CASA’s PG Training Center, includes Intro to Weatherization and Retrofitting
  • Components: Heating, cooling and temperature measurements, basic electricity and refrigeration, low voltage A/C control systems, mapping refrigeration systems, system repairs and replacements.
  • Certificate Awarded: CFC License (Universal, Types I or II) 60 credits from Prince George’s Community College.

Introduction to Landscape Management

  • Course Info: 48 hour course taught by PGCC at CASA’s PG and Silver Spring Centers
  • Components: Introduction to landscaping, landscape design, licensing, equipment operation, conservation landscaping, plant recognition, landscape installation
  • Certificate Awarded: 36 Nontransferable Credits and certificate from Prince George’s Community College.

Drywall and Painting

  • Course Info: 16 hour class taught by PGCC instructors at CASA’s PG Training Center
  • Components: Introduction to indoor painting, preparation process for painting, stripping sanding, priming and painting, hanging drywall, finishing painting projects, paint identification
  • Certificate Awarded: 16 credits from Prince George’s Community College.

Ceramic and Tile

  • Course Info: 16 hour class taught by PGCC instructors at CASA’s Prince George’s Training Center
  • Components: Tile identification, using tile cutters, applying caulk, installing tiles, installing ceramic bathroom appliances, cutting uneven edges
  • Certificate Awarded: 16 credits from Prince George’s Community College.
